Bauhaus Dessau 1993
Alternative Design projects, exhibitions, symposia, theatre
as well as a range of media explorations form the scope of
today's Bauhaus Dessau, an international oriented Research
and Design Institute. Various pedagogic methods stemming
from an interdisciplinary approach examine and question
the means and resources of contemporary societal
development in the new Eastern context. Projects aim to
examine and present fresh approaches to cope with the
precarious social, environmental and economic problems
arising from the reunification, not only of Germany, but
of Europe as a whole. The Bauhaus Dessau's artistic and
design proposals, combined with its ideal location within
the historically and industrially significant
Dessau-Wittenberg-Bitterfeld region, in the German Federal
State of Saxony Anhalt, provide a unique opportunity to
bridge the gaps between experimental study methods and
practical response.
Thus, in this period of dramatic change, the Bauhaus Dessau
strives to foster a renewed dialogue and understanding of
the problems facing East and West.
